Copper Electric Lantern Installation Instructions

Unpack and inspect lantern: Read the notes attached to the shipping boxes for pertinent information about the enclosed lantern. Check contents of shipping box for written installation instructions, mounting hardware, mounting bracket (if applicable), lantern. Ensure there are no structural or aesthetic issues with the lantern itself.

Disconnect the power: Before starting installation, disconnect the power by either turning off the circuit breaker or by removing the fuse at the fuse box. Turning off the switch is not sufficient to prevent electrical shock.

Inspect the mounting surface: The wall mount and ceiling mount lanterns are attached to a structure or building. Make sure there is adequate support for the weight. If mounting on brick, stone or stucco, masonry-anchors (not provided with the fixture) may need to be used.

Install mounting hardware: If unit is wall mount or ceiling mount, use the lantern bracket to mark the locations for attaching mounting bolts to the wall or ceiling. Attach the mounting bolts as required. Do not assemble the mounting bracket at this time.

Connect electric components: Connect the wires from the lantern to the supply source as indicated in the written instructions. Typically, this will direct you to connect the white wire from the lantern to the white wire of the supply source. Connect the black wire from the lantern to the black wire from the supply source. Connect the green wire (or bare copper wire) to the grounding conductor of the supply source. If the lantern uses a SPT cord, connect the half of the SPT cord that is ribbed to the white wire of the supply source and the smooth half of the SPT cord (with the markings) to the black wire of the supply source. Use correct sized wire connectors to connect wires (with no loose strands) and wrap the connectors with electrical tape. If the light has been built with an inspection access hole, position the electrical connection to the power source at the access hole cover location.

Mount lantern: Check that mounting hardware and electrical wires are connected. Position wires so they will not bind during assembly. Place lantern in position and secure with hardware. Align and tighten fasteners.

Reconnect power: Reconnect the power by either turning on the circuit breaker or placing the fuse back into the fuse box, then turning the switch to the “on” position. Check operations to ensure everything is functioning properly.
